My son called while i was at work Thursday. Said everything was fine other than being shot at a few times "which is no big deal". He sounded strong, positive and healthy.

I am so glad some of you are hearing from your Marines! It is encouraging to those of us who are still waiting...God Bless!

For those of you who have heard from your marines, is there anything they are specifically asking for or needing that we can send in our packages?

Hi Julia,

When I talked to my son last week, they were not getting mail/boxes. I guess they are holding those until it is safer? I don't know, just guessing. His biggest request is still dip/chew stuff :( But my boxes contain a mix of food items and toilettries. Plus things like boxers and socks. He did tell his dad that he shared some boxers with another Marine whose family can't afford to send things. That's what it's about :)

Hi Shalon,
Thank you for the information! These Marines are like family and you can always count on them to share anything they have...so good to hear. I am sure they can use items by now, I hope my son and all Marines alike were well stocked before they left for Marjah and they will be so excited when packages do arrive. I will pray it is soon and we will keep sending those packages and letters!!! OOH-RAH!!!

Hey guy's
My son called today and all is well. He thinks the boxes will catch up with them shortly. He said it feels like waiting for christmas. He said the weather is changing and getting warmer.
Rob-As for being shot at...When my husband came back from one of his deployments I asked him if he was shot at. His response...well not accurately....I never asked again.
I hope you all get calls soon.

Hello 1/6 Bravo families. We heard from LCPL Robbie last week! He didn't have time to tell me if he needed anything. Just enough time for the "I love you," and the "Be careful." On a chat night, one mom mentioned they always need more socks. I've sent some, but I guess they just pitch them after a week or so. Another person suggested small paintbrushes to clean the guns. I will continue to send my weekly box, and I'm glad to hear the boxes might be catching up with them soon.
Take care, families.
Juli

Talked to Lcpl Josh Sunday morning - all is well and boxes are arriving. First time I've gotten to actually talk to him since he deployed. He sounded good and still has his sense of humor.

I am doing the happy dance! I received a call from LCPL Joel today. I haven't heard from him in about 3 weeks. He also says they are getting their mail and packages. The pictures I saw earlier that I was almost positive were him, actually were! He described them to me. He says they are doing well, and is in need of very little. He got 4 boxes delivered at one time, so the backlog of packages and mail are arriving. The only thing he mentioned were ramen noodles, so guess what he will be getting in his next package from home? I asked about candies or toys for the children, and he said the guys were not allowed to give them out. I am so happy today, nothing can bother me. The world is in sync again, and I am so very thankful to the Lord for His love and care of my son and our marines. Thank all of you for your care toward all of us.

LCPL Robbie called again very early Monday morning. He said he hadn't been shot at in two days! Boy, they know just what to say!
JTsmom, Robbie mentioned that they are shaking hands and passing things out to the children, so I sent some suckers and some toys. I wonder if anyone else has heard whether they can pass things out or not. I will send more if they are allowed, but don't want to get anyone in trouble.
I'm still praying daily for our Marines and their families.

LCPL Joel called in the middle of the night, we were excited. This time he got to talk to his Dad.I will lose sleep any night just to hear his voice. We tried to encourage him and let him know how proud we were of him. And we just listened to him talk. His Dad got him to tell us a couple of funny stories. The call was difficult because we lost connection 5 times, but he kept trying. He is getting mail and packages but I am not sure how long they are taking to arrive. We also received a letter that he dated middle of Feb.when he was telling us how cold it was there and could we send hand warmers. The last time he was there it was 150 degrees. Now the temp is 80 during the day, and he hopes to be gone before the real heat comes. He seems content and relatively happy and asks for any treats, I am assuming we have a very narrow window of opportunity for any more chocolate. I will send his last in the next box and then switch to things that don't melt. The camp pillow I sent early on he punctured so will send a new one also. (about $5 at Walmart, blow-up w/ cover, rolls up very small)I sent one the last deployment and he thought it was the best thing ever. I also read on another post that the little condiments you get in delivery or take out are great thing to send, so he will be getting all I have accumulated.

I received a call from Lcpl Josh last week (Wed I think?).
We lost our connection too a couple of times. He only had a few minutes, but it was great to hear from him. He said that he had just received the box I sent for Valentines. So that was over a month ago I sent that.

We got another call too. He sounded good. This time our Marine asked for more protein bars, drink mixes, shampoo (apparently they hold a bag of water with a hole in it over their heads), socks, and reading material. He received two boxes I sent about a month ago. Because it is getting hot quickly, I sent bug repellent, powder, and more anti-perspirant. I'm looking for cool ties, but haven't found them yet. He said not to bother with suntan lotion because they are so covered up.
I would love to hear what other families are sending.

You can buy cheap camping showers for the guys. I've seen them from $6 (I don't think they last long--but you can buy a lot of them ;>) to $25-$30. Basically, they are heavy duty plastic bags with a shower nozzle. You fill them with water, hang them up in the sun, and voila. A warm shower in no time at all...You can buy them from Amazon, I've seen them at Sears, and at any camping store.

And somewhere on this web site, there are great instructions for a Bath in a Box...basically the large-size flat rate box, a heavy duty plastic garbage bag filled with bath stuff like a towel, soap, shampoo, rubber ducky, scrubbie, with instructions to take everything out of the bag, put the bag back in the box, stand in it, fill with water, and take a bath. I seem to remember you have to label the outside of the box, warning them to carefully open it so it is still usable. I thought that was a great idea!

Got a good call this morning. Getting lots of packages and mail. Obviously getting more sleep as he sounded more rested than he has in several months. Didn't say a lot about goings on there as he wanted to hear about how things were at home. Hope more Bravo calls going out.

Got a call from LCPL Joel yesterday afternoon. We had a hard time with the connection again but that is OK as long as I hear his voice. He had been busy that day/night. He gave me some suggestions if anyone is interested or have not heard them before. He said to send fly traps, and flea collars. The guys wear them on their ankles and wrists. So far no mosquitoes ( I am sure they are coming), but lots of flea bites. Also ranch dressing, the guys put in the potatoes for added flavor. We are getting calls fairly frequently now so hope others are also.

Please read the information about not wearing flea collars -about 1/4 of the way down the page, just to the right of 'foot care is crucial':

We got a call this morning. He has had his second shower now. He said he feels like a new man! He also received six boxes in just a few days. The cans of hearty soups were a big hit. I'm sure the shower, boxes, and the phone call home all helped because he sounded great. It was a wonderful Easter present.
I hope more Bravo families had a call recently.
Not much longer now. Let's all hang in there!

I wish I have found this site long before this . This is my sons 2st deployment and I had been absolutely stressed. I felt all out of communication here . But thankfully my son has been calling every few weeks , getting his boxes ( I think the marines cornered the market in wipes ) and his motomail. I am up for any suggestions , chats , gatherings and information . I am actually a newbie all round , so any help would greatly be appreciated .

Thanks
Cheryl

Momma dukes: I just sent you the same email that Sandy sent earlier. Watch for it in both your inbox and spam filter.

I'm sorry, but no return dates, date ranges, etc can be posted on our message board due to OpSec considerations. I know how hard it is not knowing when your Marine will be returning...I remember well anxiously awaiting the news when my son was deployed. I hope you will hear something soon.

I got a call from Robbie today. He said he has received several packages lately, but they are a little slow right now. I asked if he or anyone needed anything, and he chuckled and said that somebody "gets about 20 boxes every time there is a delivery" and they share! I want to thank whoever that is that is sending enough for all of our boys. Marine Parents Rock!
