Our FRO has now sent two emails just in the past couple of days. I hadn't heard from her, but received a copy of the first email from another mom... I did email our FRO. She had me on her distribution list but somehow I was missed... she has now sent me the info. If you haven't heard from her, I would suggest you contact her. Also the 3/7 website is now updated and has a message from the commander as well.

Monica,,, I heard sox, baby wipes (at least to be sent), "smartwool" or Underarmour gear canned foods, etc.... My son has a list, sorta... he is planning on buying cases of pedialyte too.

I would suggest that you let your marine get what he needs. I told mine, I'd drive him around - he doesn't have his license yet! - but he needs to take care of what he needs to get. He is adding me to his bank accounts and to any accounts that need to be paid while he is gone.

Hello 3/7 families, it is wonderful to see you all networking together to get some good deployment tips. I am currently ensuring that everyone that I have been given information for is on my distribution list. So if you have not received anything from the FRO over the past two weeks please click on the link to email the FRO on the 3/7 website and be sure to include your Marine/Sailor's name, rank and company if possible. If you are not on their data sheet then have them to please stop in and make sure I have you added. I will be sending out a weekly note to ensure everyone knows where to go for information and what avenues are currently being updated. It has been a slow process but it appears to be speeding up. Got to love technology!!! Take care and know that I have you all in my thoughts!!!

Hey Kathy!! One thing I dont have to ever buy are boxers!! LOL! Neither of my boys wear em,dunno what it is,but i can skip that one!Everytime i go anywhere i scour the bargain bins, powdered mixes, those one shot caffeine drinks, gum, hard candy, pkg. meat, like spam,(YUCK!),but he likes em,beef jerky, magazines,DVD's,it does get kinda hard to think of new things to think of when your doing it once a week,so i gotta good headstart this time.Oh yea!! Cheap flip-flops for the showers, when they get em,but that was one thing he asked for last time.Winter stuffs on sale now,so buy a few toboggans. He also asked for an egg-crate thing that goes on a cot,and a nice soft pillow,i couldnt get those things stuffed in a standard rate box,so it cost me way more to mail them than what i paid for them. And one of the things that was a BIGGY was febreeze,or airfreshners.I also washed all the washables before i sent them, and he said the smell reminded him of home. And i sent him the newspaper from our town too.

One of the things that I did right before they shipped out on my son's deployment was assemble bed linen and pillows, vacumn packed them with those plastic bags that you use with your vacumn cleaner and sent them out so that by the time they arrived, the boxes arrived a day or two later. He said it was good timing. After that I used the hand held vacumn sealer for things in his regular boxes, makes more room and secures anything that might leak.

I would hold off on the linens and pillows until we find out where our Marines are going to land. A whole lot of Marines are living in fighting holes. Our best source of info will be letters from our Marines.

This is from the Feb 24 Newsletter: click on Deployment learning center then click on care pakages then in the box to the right click on contents also in that same area is restrictions(must read) Under contents it gives you a general list of things they might need. I found it to be helpful.

I'll second that advice on not sending sheets, pillows etc.. Better check with your Marine. Mine's a grunt and assures me he will have no need for sheets for a while. Because if you send them and they can/t use em. Their either a gift to the locals or trash.

Great ideas for the care packages, everyone! Thanks! Also, thank Lori for being there for us!! I have a question about the "data sheet" Lori (FRO)mentioned...does anyone know what paperwork that is? I asked my Marine and he wasn't sure. Hope you all are enjoying your Marines!!!

Hi All: Another 3/7 Mom checking in here. I just remembered yesterday that my Marine doesn't have a passport, so I guess he can't go.............He unfortunately reassured me he'd be traveling with his weapon so he didn't need a (*@^)&%)^$%@)^$@)passport.........didn't make me feel any better. I've also been in touch with my good friend from Cheesy Bears: Her son is with the 3/4. So, I guess what I'm saying is that we all have a lofty weight now and at the same time lots of support here on the homefront as our guys and gals do all the heavy lifting across the pond. Looking forward to chatting with you all over the next few months. Also, the 3/7 parents are looking to set up a "chat night" on the boards so we can connect there too from time to time.

Spent all evening putting together care packages. Have 3 ready. Printing addresses on envelopes. Printing labels for carepackages and when I was done I thought I had better check and make sure I got the address right. He will have to tell me the other addresses he wants. I only printed my address and his return address on the evelopes and then sent him some blanks with only his return address on them.

Great idea on pre-addressing envelopes, lakemimom! I know this is probably a silly question, but...Does anyone know when they send letters home if any special postage is necessary? Or can they use regular US postage stamps?

No questions are silly, Cindy! We've all learned what we needed to know when we needed it. Letters sent home from there are free - no postage required for them. They do have to pay to send any packages home.

We ran around town all day yesterday.. from early in the a.m. to about 730 last night. I'm pooped out today! My marine is still sleeping so I figure I'm doing pretty good if he is still asleep and I've already been up and going for the last 6 hours!!!!

Asked about POA and Will and was told not to worry about it. It's all taken care of.... He won't say anything else, so I guess I'm going to have to go with the flow..... he has me on his accounts and such to help cover his stuff while he is gone.... just don't understand the other... oh well. too many other things to think about than to dwell on this....

Sorry I'm rambling.... too bad I don't drink coffee to keep me up!

I read some where that for them to send a letter no postage is required, as long as it is a letter, small shippihg envelopes to send one time use cameras home will cost them postage, but i don't know how much.

WEll Bri has been telling all the family this week that if they want to send anything that they need to give it to me and I'll send it.. He doesn't want me giving the family his address, I guess. He hasn't told me that specifically, but I know my "boy"!!!!
