Hi Rangel1209 and welcome to Marineparents!!!!! This is an awesome place to be for information and support. We are so happy to have you as part of the family and hope to see you back here often =)
I sent you an email with information that will help familiarize you with the site. It sometimes ends up in spam/bulk, so if you don't see it in your inbox, you might check there.
P.S. I'm a marine wife to. It is hard when we don't hear from our hubbies, but just know that wherever he is you are in his heart and in his thoughts always (hoping you hear from him soon!!!!). If you would like to, we would love to have you on the wives boards and the wives/fiancess/ gfs boards as well: http://www.usmcparents.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=292

| hello rangel1209- from posts I have read it looks phone calls are starting up again, my bf is 3/6 Lima and called the other day, so hopefully you will hear from your guy! My bf said they have been busy and where they are at doesn't have much right now so that may contribute to some of the silence. Keep sending mail and packages they are getting some of it. | I sent an email to CBS requesting info on the footage of H&S. Ill let everyone know what they say. Hopefully they will let me see the video. I suggest that everyone else bombard CBS with emails as well, just to make our point clear that we want to see our boys. =] |

| Hi Rangel1209 and welcome. I heard from my son in India Co. last Sunday morning, and he sounded wonderful! He says they are all making the best of the situation, and he said it has been intense. I hope by now you heard from your hubby. My son said that things are loosening up and they have a little access to telephones now, so my fingers are crossed for you! |

I heard from my India Company Marine last week. He sounded great and said that things had calmed down a bit so hopefully we will all be getting more calls or letters. Keep sending those packages and pray without ceasing!

My hubby's in the news for his IED blast.
Armored Trucks Shield Marines From Taliban Bombs by Corey Flintoff, NPR March 12, 2010
The shooting is largely over in the Marjah area of southern Afghanistan that was recaptured by U.S. and Afghan forces last month. But a deadly threat remains: homemade bombs. Taliban fighters have seeded the area with thousands of IEDs, and U.S. and NATO convoys run the risk of hitting one or more of them every time they patrol.

Here is a link I posted in the H&S forum...
My brother is a part of that team, but didn't see him in the video, thought maybe someone would see one of their loved ones... Was told not to post actual link, so if you do a Google search for "Marines Under Fire in Marjah" it will pull up the video on the CBS site. |

| Tina- That was an awesome article. I listened to the audible version availabe on that same page and it was so neat to hear the calm, proud tone in your husband's voice. I have to believe that my son knows your hubby-I want brave men surrounding him! My Christopher has always said that gunnys are "bad-ass" Marines. He means that lovingly of course!! Thanks for sharing the link and for sharing your husband with all our Marines over there. God bless everyone on them!!!!! |

A little news, I think this is Lima:
Marjah push: Ups and downs are lessons for future By ALFRED de MONTESQUIOU (AP) March 12, 2010
EDITOR'S NOTE: Alfred de Montesquiou, an Associated Press correspondent embedded with U.S. Marines in the battle for the Afghan town of Marjah, was able to observe some of the lessons of the fighting and hear from the officers in command how they are being absorbed.
---
MARJAH, Afghanistan (AP) — After a day spent pinned down in gunbattles or caught in a maze of roadside bombs, with little hope of air support and an erratic Afghan army to coax along, Lance Cpl. Travis Anderson reflected on the frustrations of the campaign U.S. forces were fighting.

| I agree what an awesome vehicle. just knowing it protects them is wonderful, hated reading some of the comments on that new's page, i wanted to climb thru my computer and give them a piece of my mind, every penny spend is worth it, if is can save lives. did anyone else read some of those comments made me sick reading some of them. so thankful for those trucks and the other stuff they have to protect them. |

| I try not to read those comments, because it is so upsetting. You know, if these negative posters had a loved one deployed, they would feel differently. |

Hi Navy, so happy you got your phone calls!
To all the marine parents: I am very happy they have those armored vehicles, and really hate reading all comments after the articles come out and such. People really don't know what they are talking about! It is real nice sit in your warm, dry home behind a tv or computer and talk bad about what's happening and have no idea what its like to experience it! I worry everyday my boyfriend is there, thoughts and prayers to all our marines and sailors! Semper Fi Proud Marine Girlfriend |

Jeanne...
My husband is not a Gunny. Well not anymore. He's a Chief Warrant Officer 2. ...Also his title is Gunner S. They are only ones in the Marine Corps that wears to different insignias. A bursting bomb and the warrant officer bar.
Google it...there are only 50 or so Gunners in the whole Marine Corps and you have to submit a package and they go thru a months of evaulation to pick them.

Marines endure fleas, flies, filth in Marjah
By Drew Brown, Stars and Stripes Mideast edition, Wednesday, March 17, 2010
KAREZ-E-SAYYIDI, Afghanistan — By any estimate, the living conditions at Combat Outpost Coutu can only be described as grim.
Named after Pfc. Kyle J. Coutu, a 20-year-old from Providence, R.I., who was killed Feb. 18 during the initial push into the Taliban stronghold of Marjah, the small camp sits in a sun-baked mud-brick compound that belongs to a local honcho who the Marines suspect is an opium dealer.

Just read an article about the 3/6 Jump Platoon - It is on the CBS site. You can do a Google search of "Jump Platoon: Taking Knocks for the Colonel" and it should bring up the article with pics.
Even though it was taken awhile ago, it is still so great to see a picture of my brother!
Moderator inserted article:
Jump Platoon: Taking Knocks for the Colonel This story was filed by CBS News correspondent Mandy Clark, who was embedded with the 3/6 Jump Platoon during the recent operation to rid the town of Marjah, in Afghanistan's Helmand province, of Taliban fighters.

Jump Platoon has one mission: Protect the Battalion Commander as he moves in his battle space. Where he goes, they go.

Another piece by CJ Chivers, the reporter for the NY Times who embedded with Kilo Company.
Marja Embed: Six Weeks in Helmand Province
March 22, 2010, 7:00 am By C.J. CHIVERS
After spending more than six weeks with the Marines and Afghan National Army in Helmand Province, Tyler Hicks and I left Afghanistan in early March. We plan to return a few times this year. Meanwhile, our colleagues will follow developments there, as Rod Nordland just did. But even as the conversation pitches forward, there are items from the opening of the Marja offensive that merit more attention. The limits of space in the newspaper, as well the shortages of electricity and time while on the ground, meant that material worth sharing at the outset never found an outlet.

March 22, 2010, 1:33 pm Video: An Afghan Farmer or Bomb Maker? By C.J. CHIVERS In a series of posts on At War, the correspondent C. J. Chivers reports on the month and a half that he and the photographer Tyler Hicks spent embedded with United States forces in Afghanistan, detailing the first days of Operation Moshtarak, the recent offensive on Marja.
