DOD Identifies Marine Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Lance. Cpl. Jose L. Maldonado, 21, of Mathis, Texas, died Dec. 17 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

I am so saddened to hear of the loss of Lance Cpl Jose L. Maldonado. I send my deepest condolences to his family and friends. He is a true hero who will always be in the hearts of his Marine family. His sacrifice will not be forgotten.

My sincerest condolences go out to the family and friends of Lcpl. Jose Maldonado. We are praying for you and grieve with you. We now have one more true Hero in South Texas and he will never be forgotten.

To the family and friends, my son said "this was one of their own" must have been a very close friend, my deepest condolences. I wish there were words to say how sad i feel, and the brave young men and women still there feel for your. Our most sincere prayers to you.

Dear Friends and Family of LCpl. Jose Maldonado: Words cannot express our sorrow for the loss of your son. We cannot imagine what you are going through. My son, Danny and his squad mates, took his death very hard. He will be greatly missed. Know that your son was a great Marine!

Jose gave the ultimate sacrifice for which we are so thankful. We pray that the Lord would comfort you during this time with His love and his presence.
