The 11the MEU will soon be deploying. Several other deployed
units have set up a time to chat as a unit. This is a great way to keep in touch with those in your Marine's unit. The 1/5 will be the BLT (battalion landing team)for the MEU. The chat will include ANY groups included on the MEU.
We'll use this thread to see if there is interest in having a chat night for this unit.

Before we can schedule a chat night we need a volunteer to be a
coordinator for the unit. This coordinator will also moderate the chat night. It will take a few weeks to have a moderator ready to open a chat night due to the application process and some training required. However, We will have one of our regular moderators available to help start you off.

Is anyone interested in becoming a chat moderator for your unit night chat only?

A Unit Specific Chat Coordinator
A Unit Specific Chat Coordinator is a member who volunteers their time to help out in this specific chat room for their unit only. The night might be scheduled for once a week, twice a month or even once a month. This volunteer is also responsible for keeping the unit informed of changes in their chat nights, or other topics that are scheduled that the members may want to be in the chat rooms for. A Unit Chat Room Coordinator is the eyes for that chat room. You will be responsible for making sure that no one is violating OpSEC or Policies of MarineParents.com.

Computer skills needed:

-being able to know how to log in into and use the chat room
-being able to log in and use the message boards
-being able to copy and paste

We would need to figure out a night and times and also how often you would like to meet, monthly or bi-monthly. The time of the chat would coincide with our regular nightly chats as follows:

9:00 to 11:00 eastern
8:00 to 10:00 central
7:00 to 9:00 mountain
6:00 to 8:00 pacific.

The following is the link to our Volunteer Application. If you would like to Volunteer for Only the Unit Chat Coordinator, please check the box "Chat Coordinator Only" and in the comments field, along with your comments, Please add:
"Unit Chat Coordinator Only for the 11th MEU (1/5 Unit) chat night."

Application for MarineParents.com Volunteer:
(incomplete applications will not be processed or reviewed)
http://www.marineparents.com/usmc/application.asp

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

I'll keep check in here and see how it is going.

Awwwwww DeanDad! Believe it or not, MANY of the current moderators had never used a computer until they had a family member join the Marines and found this organization! If you or your wife has any questions on things, please feel free to email me.

Greetings gumhealer! Wonder if I could get a little info from you --think I read where you had gone out for your son's deployment--we are planning the same and would like to know if family can see their Marine the morning of the deployment, if so,then where do we gather, etc. ANYTHING would be helpful! We are staying on Coronado. Do they get leave that weekend (assuming that the "float" starts on a weekday...?) THANKS

Marti,
Sorry that I didn't see this till today! Yes, we DID go out for deployment. We went out in time to have the weekend before as well. We got to spend a lot of the weekend with him, as well as the "after work" hours before they deployed. We go to go on ship the day before as they packed, and the morning of the deployment. It can be a bit tricky to get onto the Naval Base, much harder than arriving at CP! If you have questions, please email me by clicking on my name.

Nothing has moved forward yet, and having two is a real help, in case one can't be there.

Dean Dad,
Since the 11th MEU has not yet deployed, I am thinking that your son may be on the 13th MEU. I sent you a separate email with some links to check out. If you have more questions, please feel free to email me by clicking on the little envelope in this post.

Even though there were a few of us, we had a lot of fun! Hope you all can join us next time. Be patient, it only takes a couple of minutes to get the hang of it. My problem was that I could not log on using my desktop, I had to switch to my lap top, which then logged me off but I go right back on and was there until the end. Hope to see more of you there.

Don't forget we are getting into shape, so be sure to have your exercise outfits on and a bottle of water. Kim "Commando" will be our SDI for the 11 MEU CREW Fitness Challenge. I hear she is a terror and all the other DI's fear her.

I would love to set one up, if there is someone willing to step up to coordinate it. I'll start a new thread for 2009, this one is from 2007.
