I would like to put this on this forum because I didn't get many responses from the other one. We have a young man in our Boy Scout troop that would like to send 100 care packages to our troops, for his Eagle Project. He is trying to get names, etc. I told him that he should go through a trusted organization to send them. Any ideas of how I can put him in contact with the right people. We live in Southern California.

Moderator's Note:
See also the web site for The Care Package Project™; there is a page under "How To Help" called "Eagle Scout" that shows how they will help you make it happen.

ssk195: You were right in advising this Eagle Scout candidate go through a trusted organiztion. I have listed below the link to DoD regarding this issue....

http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=7898

Also, here is the link to MarineParents.com Care Package Project pages. Perhaps the project can be modified to help out this organization in collecting for our project. If not for the mailing going out this month, for the next one!!!

http://www.marineparents.com/USMC/troops-packages.asp

As the mother of 3 Eagle Scouts, I am tickled pink this Eagle Candidate would want to do something like this for his Eagle Scout Project. Best of luck to him!!!

Hi LaRae! My son is in the process of completing his Eagle Scout project of collecting and sending items for deployed Marines. He went around our neighborhood with flyers explaining the project and asking for donations to be left on doorsteps the following Saturday. He got a pretty good response. He will now send boxes of items to Marine Parents, who will then send them on overseas.

Here is the link that explains the Care Package Project: http://www.carepackageproject.com/

I agree that going through a trusted organization is the way to go. For the safety of our Marines, individual names are not given out. (We have in the past sent boxes over to a 1st Sgt, who then distributed the items appropriately, but the 1st Sgt was a friend of my son's.)

Hope that helps!

Absolutely! We've worked with over a dozen Eagle Scouts on their project in the past two years. Give me a buzz and let me know what your plans and deadline are. We'd love to participate with another Eagle Scout project!!

I think this is just great! My son was (is) an Eagle Scout. I really appreciate your son wanting to do something for the troops and will share this idea with a couple of guys I know who are working on their Eagle.

Thank you all for your kind words and support. I have passed all of the information along to the boy in our troop. It is not my son, he too is working on his Eagle Scout project but something different. The boy who wants to do this is very active in our schools ROTC, so I hope he continutes with this plan, I think it will bring him a lot of satisfaction. The ball is now in his court! Thanks again all! My Marine is an Eagle Scout, so I too know what a special honor this can be once completed! Not to mention an advancment in rank.

I love the fact that young men that are working on their Eagle project are thinking about our troops overseas. Both of my boys (Chris and his brother Donald) are Eagle Scouts and their troop from here in NorthShore has produced not one Marine in the last year but two. We also have a young man that is collecting items to send to troops for his Eagle project. Way to go to all the young men working on Eagle Scout projects, I am proud of them and the hard work that is involved.

I'm so sorry I have not responded. I have had a heck of time figuring out the new forum. I think I've got it now. Unfortunately, the boy chose to do something a little more local for his project. But we have several more boys in the wings that I hope will consider helping our troops. I too have two Eagle Scouts. My Marine and probably a future Coasty. Thanks for all of yor encouragement

Question for moderator...My Marine is also an Eagle Scout, and I still have contact with his Troop. From these postings, I wonder if MarineParents wouldn't have a new source of assistance getting donations for Care Packages here. I wonder if a new category of Eagle Scout Projects to Benefit Marines might be created under "AllForums" that isn't buried in the Marine Supporters/Parents thread. I found this topic by chance here. I think it is a terrific idea for an Eagle projects. If Scouts were to have a link to go to for info that gave them suggested items, info on who to go through (MarineParents), where to ship the stuff for inclusion in packages, etc. it would be something we could distribute to local Scout troops as a flyer for boys looking for Eagle projects. I am willing to bet it would generate a pretty good response.

On the Care Package Project™ website, I've published a link under "YOU CAN HELP" called "Eagle Scouts" that gives a direct link to this thread on the message boards. We're working with several Eagle Scout projects right now as a matter of fact. They do a great job. It's rare that a parent makes a phone call or inquires about an Eagle Scout Project. 99% of the time, it's the scout himself that makes the call and gets it all arranged. That's part of the learning opportunity for them--mom and dad don't make the plans, the scout does it all.

I'm so impressed with the organizations skills these young men have and each of them I've worked with have been strong leaders and able to take the ball and run with it with very little instruction--and they get it done right. I hope I have an opportunity to hire a former Eagle Scout someday--I now understand the caliber of young men these fine kids are.

Thanks for the suggestions Big Sky! Now that the link to this thread is published on the CPP website, it will stay active and easy to find without having to make it a sticky.

Hello everyone. Proud parent of an Eagle Scout here. LCpl Christopher started scouting as a Tiger Cub and stayed with it till he earned his Eagle Scout Rank. I was his Cubmaster and his Scoutmaster. Christopher received his Eagle Scout badge at the age of 13. His project was building an announcer's stand for our local high school's softball team. Doing something for our military never crossed our minds. I will contact the local council and let them know of MarineParents.com.

Wow Roger,
I'm the proud parent of two Eagle Scouts as of this week. LCpl Scotty also started scouting as a Tiger Cub and stayed with it until Eagle. Though Scotty did not earn his Eagle until 17, he too did an announcers tower for the football team at his high school. This week my youngest will finish up his Eagle board of review. Nice to meet another Eagle parent!

Hi LaRae..........Congrats to two Eagle Scouts. I think the hardest part of becoming an Eagle is the Eagle Board of Review. I have sat on a few of them and I was stressed myself.....LOL Unfortunately, after LCpl Christopher made Eagle he told me.....NO MORE CAMPING!....LOL Well, on his leave prior to MCT, he asked that we go family camping......LOL What helped Christopher alot was the fact that I was with him all the way and his mom worked for the local Scout Office and she was also a leader so we were always on top of things. We no longer participate in Scouting but do still support our council with yearly donations.
Thanks for believing in Scouting and most of all thanks for believing in the MARINE Corps.
GOD BLESS OUR MARINES!

MULTIPLE EAGLES!!!! Congratulations to them, Congartulations to YOU...
As parents of an Eaglr in Colorado, I was a Cub Master, Den, Webelo Leader. But only an Asst. Scout Master in Boy Scouts. Wanted to be there more for Brett during those years, we did set a record for Father -son attendance to campouts. Was fun. But alot of stress for sure. Its great seeing these guys step up and get these projects done, paperwork signed-off and approved. Another few-proud... Still stop by meetings and will have to present a few of these projects from this site to committee. Thanks! Brett installed a Flag pole at our church with 2 Flagstone benches, dedicated it to past and present Military, as well as Future service members. Had a dedication with many Military Present in Dress Uniforms, His Recruiter was present also. Vrey Impressive. Will keep checking in Ray
