Just wondering if the 2/1 chat night is going to begin again once our guys are deployed. Last time it was a godsend ... and thank you Kathy for being our moderator.

I'm not sure what "season" the 2/1 is deploying, but we'd be happy to set up a unit chat for when that happens. This is a great way to keep in touch with those in your Marine's unit. We'll use this thread to see if there is interest in having a chat night for this unit.
Before we can schedule a chat night we need a volunteer to be a coordinator for the unit. This coordinator will also moderate the chat night. It will take a few weeks to have a moderator ready to open a chat night due to the application process and some training required. However, We will have one of our regular moderators available to help start you off.
Is anyone interested in becoming a chat moderator for your unit night chat only?
A Unit Specific Chat Moderator
A Unit Specific Chat Moderator is a member who volunteers their time to help out in this specific chat room for their unit only. The night might be scheduled for once a week, twice a month or even once a month. This volunteer is also responsible for keeping the unit informed of changes in their chat nights, or other topics that are scheduled that the members may want to be in the chat rooms for. A Unit Chat Room Moderator is the eyes for that chat room. You will be responsible for making sure that no one is violating OpSEC or Policies of MarineParents.com. Computer skills needed:
-being able to know how to log in into and use the chat room -being able to log in and use the message boards -being able to copy and paste
We would need to figure out a night and times and also how often you would like to meet, monthly or bi-monthly. The time of the chat would coincide with our regular nightly chats as follows:
9:00 to 11:00 eastern 8:00 to 10:00 central 7:00 to 9:00 mountain 6:00 to 8:00 pacific.
The following is the link to our Volunteer Application. If you would like to Volunteer for Only the Unit Chat Moderator, Please check the box "Chat Coordinator Only" and in the comments field, along with your comments, Please add: "Unit Chat Coordinator Only for the 2/1 unit chat night."
Application for MarineParents.com Volunteer: (incomplete applications will not be processed or reviewed) http://www.marineparents.com/usmc/application.asp
Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.
I'll keep check in here and see how it is going.

During our last deployment "mammakat" trained to be our moderator. Is she still available? She was great! |

I would REALLY love to be a part of 2/1's chat - the sooner the better! Being my son's first deployment, I really feel in the dark. When the time comes, how much detail can we chat about? Are we able to share information that we would get perhaps from key volunteers?
Curious ...

Jeanie, Here's a link to where you enter the chat room and the rules are posted. http://www.marineparents.com/usmc/chat.asp
You cannot share KV info per our posting guidelines here: http://www.marineparents.com/USMC/message-board.asp ABOUT KEY VOLUNTEER NETWORK (KV): Please do not post ANY information about any Key Volunteer on any forum.
It's a very good idea you have to learn the do's and dont's before you start ! I'm too slow at chat --the brain and the fingers don't coordinate very well , but I do enjoy 'listening' to everyone!

Thanks - it looks like 2/1 doesn't have a unit specific chatroom yet.

Usually just before or at the start of deployment a chat moderator will start one if there's enough interest at that time.

Sue, 2/1 is scheduled to leave in the Winter of 2007, with ADVON going earlier. I think a chat night would be good for the newbies in particular, although second time around might be even rougher. We did not get chat til the end of deployment the first time around if I remember right, or sometime in the middle. It could be a very good thing for all. It is almost time to rock!!! Ruth Proud Marine Mom of LCPL Jack, 2/1 Weapons Co., CAAT, scheduled to redeploy and LCPL Brett, MACS 1 Delta, currently deployed. I am doubly blessed!!!!

Ruth, thanks so much for the update. If we get a coordinator trained ahead of time, we can start that chat as soon as they deploy. Sounds like you may have a little experience with chatting???? The link to apply is in my first post above.

My son is in 2/1 Fox Co. A cht night would be wonderful! He was in a FAST Co. before coming to the 2/1. He was in several different places but I never found a chat group for them. This is great!

I am very interested in participating in a 2/1 chat night, if one is getting going. I am a "newbie", as my son is going on his first deployment. I have been following this message board, hoping to see something about a chat room--I was so blessed to have him home over the holidays, but knowing he will be gone (and terrified that he will be one of the "surge" groups), I would really appreciate hearing from other parents who have gone through this. I am praying for all of our military, and so proud of their courage and sacrifice for us. Please let me know if there will be a chat night for the 2/1 families. I am on the pacific coast, so 7p-9p would work best for me.

Hi Shirley and Welcome!! We’re so glad you found us! I think that this is the very best place to be, especially during a deployment. Everyone is very caring and supportive plus there’s a wealth of information on our website.
This is a brief overview of our website and the many services offered to the families and friends of our Marines: http://www.marineparents.com/usmc/new-to-MarineParents.asp I’ve sent you a separate email with some info about the site. Again, we’re happy you’re here!!
