Perhaps you all have heard of the seven Marines and one Navy Corpsman from Kilo 2 held in the Brig at CP under investigation for an incident at Al-Hamdania in Iraq on April 26, 2006. You may have seen me and Terry, the father of Lcpl Rob, on CNN, Fox and MSNBC.
Please take a moment to think of these eight brave soldiers held in confinement.
Thanks
John Very Proud Marine Dad of PFC John-

American - the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. I'm shocked that these brave men - doing the job they were trained to do - have lost their freedom. However, my heart knows they will be FREE again for I have no doubt they all conformed to the high standards of the Corp.
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." --John Stewart Mill--

| I am so very sorry for this result. These Marines that are accused have faced a devilish if not hellish environment. Their training would've hopefully helped them cope, but I have not walked in their shoes, so cannot account. My son, Cpl Jeff Starr, was deployed three times to Iraq and was kia in Ramadi, Iraq. Last week, we, as a family met with President Bush, I mentioned the Marines accused of wrongdoings, he wants the Marines to handle their affairs. But our Jeff, was on his third deployment and we know the situations he faced. I, was hoping as a gold star mom, to have more impact. Of course, their are much wiser folks than I. I understand he has so much more to consider than my consel, but I did voice the concern of these guys and the conditions. Anyway, tell your sons, that we empathize with the horrendous conditions they are faced with. Blessings if you can find them. |

Shellie -- Thank you for trying. Your words will remain with him (if only subconsciously) and hopefully will be considered in a wise light.
We're praying for courage and comfort to be handed down to our men in this situation, and we're also praying for wisdom and strength to be handed down to those who perform their duties to represent and judge them. |

Shellie,
Your post touched me so much more than I can adequately express in words. To take the time to not only think of, but to mention our Pendleton 8 to President Bush when you could have said literally ANYTHING in the world to him... WOW! That is such a selfless act of love and support... You are an amazing woman and an amazing mom; I am in awe and blown away!!! Girl... YOU TOTALLY ROCK!!!
With the utmost gratitude and admiration... I applaud you and I thank you! |

Our CP 8 were visited by all their families last evening (7/1/06)!
I am told that we may now write to our guys. They can accept letters only.
They cannot accept any care packages, stickers or other articles. They can accept amazon.com books that are sent directly to them.
Keep these Marines and their families in your prayers. May they soon be totally EXONERATED of any semblance of wrongdoing. God bless!!!!!

Rochelle you are an amazing human being. I have read some of your posts and it amazes me that within the pain of loosing Jeff you still find time to support the rest of us. We are so grateful for your kind heart. If ever you find yourself in need let us know. As we are here for you as well.
Meeting Pres. Bush must have been an incredible experience. Thank you for representing us to our Marine's Commander in Chief.
To all the families, friends, neighbors and communities of the Marines being held at CP, we are with you as well. We are your Marine family. We are strong if the face of difficulty. We are faithful. We are united. Tell your Marines that all of us are praying and holding together for them. Remember also the 9:00 PM EST prayer time each day. That's when we all say a combined prayer for our Military.

Thanks Shellie, for taking time to mention this to President Bush. The impact you made on him may not change any of the situation, but voicing this concern to the President let him know that Gold Star families continue to support ALL of our Marines. That has to have an impact. Thank you.
And I'm thrilled you got to meet the president! How was it? |
