The news of Cpl. (he was posthumously promoted) Spears' death deeply upset me. While every death is upsetting, this one has hit close to home. Spears was a friend of my husband's and I know it has affected them deeply over there as well. God bless them

J.R.,
We will always remeber you. You were my parents first grandson. You were my first nephew. I'll cherish the memories of you. The few times when you were a baby and I was "stuck" watching you. The picture of you I carried in my wallet for years...A toothless baby grinning ear to ear wearing a Dallas Cowboys t-shirt. Sadly, I watched you grow up through pictures. Living too far away, and so engrossed in my work. In these last couple of years I had enjoyed so much getting to know you again. A phone conversation, or an email. You listning to my football stories. Especially stories about Coach Armstrong in our Pine Forest days. The last time we were together will be burned in my heart and mind forever. That long ride to Barrancas National Cemetary to bury our "MoMo" and you rode with me in my truck. Your final goodbye to her...I was so sad and proud at the same time as you saluted her and we could hear the sound of Amazing Grace by bagpiper fading in the distance. And now we are left to prepare for that long ride to Barrancas Cemetary again. Our hearts forever broken. As we will ride behind you, I know that the souls of your Big Pa and MoMo, and the other dearly departed that loved you will ride with you.
Dear Lord hear my prayer, that you that know no boundaries of time, space, or dimension, go to that fateful day, moment, and second before our beloved J.R. was taken from us...Take him into your loving arms and protect him from any fear, doubt, or pain....And Lord, I pray that you bring peace and comfort to his parents and sisters, relatives and friends. This I pray for my nephew Jonathon Ross Spears, In The name of the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Terriir: Thank You also for your volunteering your time here on this site. I think it is a wonderful tool for expessing our many emotions. J.R. was known as "Bubba" to his two younger sisters. They so adored their brother. My sister, J.R.'s mom always protected him and doted on him like any good mother. She and our mother, recently deceased worried so much about J.R.'s decision to join the Marines. J.R.s dad knew thas his "boy"was indeed a man and capable of mking such an important decision. He was good father and had much to do with shaping such a fine young man. When I asked Jonathan why he wanted to go back and serve in a hot zone for a second tour he told me he hade a job to finish, and he wanted to be with his brothers-in-arms. God Bless them all. Uncle Michael, like the others said, what an amazing tribute and I have to thank you for giving us some insight on the person J.R. was. My husband was deeply saddened by his death and I'm sure the memories of Spears will stick with both he and I for a lifetime. God Bless your family.

That was so beautiful Uncle Michael! My fiance was very close to J.R. and is so upset about losing him. I was blessed to get to know him as well. He was so much fun to be around. When Adam called me and told me about his death, he promised me he would not let J.R. die in vain. I can promise you J.R.'s memory will live on forever! We will miss him deeply! Uncle Michael,
If Cpl Jonathon was ANYTHING like you I can see why he would have touched so many people's hearts. Even though I didn't know him, I DO know that he will be remembered as a hero. His brothers will carry him in their hearts forever.

Uncle Michael, what a loving tribute to your wonderful and precious nephew, JR. Thank you for sharing a part of your life with JR. The picture of toothless JR in his Cowboys shirt will bring smiles to you again one day. Our hearts hurt and grieve with you as we read about your love with and for JR. Please know that the wonderful memories you shared together will keep him close to all of you forever. I am so very sorry that this has happened. I cannot even imagine the pain that all his loved ones are having to go through, but we do care and are praying for each of you. God Bless You All as you must deal with the upcoming difficult days.
