It's been hard for me, because I feel like I have to be strong for people other than myself. I need to be strong for Mark, so that he doesn't worry about me, I need to be strong for my parents to prove to them that I'm not going to completely crack like I might have done a year or two ago, and I need to be strong around my sister because she doesn't fully understand how confusing everything can be for me. The last one's the hardest because her viewpoint is, "Well, you were the one who wanted to be in this relationship, so deal with it," and it's easier to keep my emotions out of the way than try to explain things to her.

And I really got back in the habit of writing in a journal once I started college. I had a really hard time during 2nd semester of my freshman year, and I don't know what I would have done without it. Once things got better, I didn't always write as often as I had before, but now, I try to make a habit of writing every other day at the very least. I'm actually a creative writing major, so writing is very cathartic for me, no matter if it's journal writing or the story I'm working on for my children's fiction class, or even writing a response on here.

And I know what it's like to go crazy from the lack of contact, and like I mentioned before, that's been more of an issue with me at SOI. Of course, I know that I can talk to him on Saturdays & Sundays, with an occasional call/text conversation during the week if I'm lucky, so it must be really hard not knowing when to expect anything. But the thing that I've come to realize (and it took me awhile to really figure this out) is that even though I may not hear from Mark for a few days, I know he's still thinking about me all the time. So if it's any help to you, remember that Evan's probably dying to talk to you but just hasn't been given an opportunity. And even though it sucks not being able to hear from them for so long, finally getting into contact with them becomes the greatest thing in the whole world! I really hope you hear from him soon!

I've always believed that there's a plan for all of us, and I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason, even if we can't figure it out right away. And I also believe that only the strongest, most worthy women were paired with Marines, because let's face it...our Marines are pretty kick ass! :)

He is serving in Afghanistan with the 1-6 Charlie Co. This website has been an excellent source of information and suggestions as we struggle with this deployment. Sending prayers for all the Marines serving this wonderful country we so often take for granted. We too, are searching the news/internet for any information about our brave soldiers. Thanks to all for your tips, words of encouragement and updates.
Semper Fi!

A good belly laugh does so much for your spirit and will help fight off the gloom from this dreary weather we have been having. All I want to do is sleep!! One more day of my 7 to work and will be off for a week, but instead of sleeping in we (several ladies i know and work with) are going to a line dancing class at the parks and rec center. heard its good exercise, staying busy is the key, then you mind doesnt have time to wander or worry. Hope you all have a great Tuesday. Got my homecoming banner today! So excited...

I put most things in Ziplocks though.. I should have purchased stock in Ziplocks and packing tape... a long time ago. Matt never complained that things tasted bad, but then again, he wouldn't have complained, he was just grateful to have the stuff he had. I don't know that bug spray will help Matt right now. Although, after the swimming stuff, he probably could use it. I"m sure after this trip off the ship, he Might have a better idea of things he would like sent. Another box going out tomorrow, hopefully this one makes it to him. Hope every one hears from their Marine.. Matt will be gone for a few days.
